SMA Ireland is pleased to to announce that the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists will host a webinar focused on SMA on 10 October 2023.
For individuals with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), physiotherapy plays a pivotal role in enhancing mobility and overall quality of life. Recognising this, in February 2023, SMA Ireland spearheaded an initiative to elevate physiotherapy standards and promote knowledge sharing across Europe. In collaboration with SMA Europe, we orchestrated an SMA physiotherapy masterclass at University Medical Centre Utrecht.
This initiative was supported by Novartis Gene Therapies and Roche Pharmaceuticals, and saw participation from 25 dedicated physiotherapists from various parts of Europe, including eight from Ireland. The course was facilitated by Professors Bart Bartels and Ludo van der Pol from the Dutch SMA Centre, with accreditations from the Dutch physiotherapy associations.
The Irish physios that attended the Utrecht masterclass will now present a recap of their key learnings at a webinar, hosted by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. Designed specifically for physiotherapists and occupational therapists, the webinar has already sold out. However further details can be found here. SMA Ireland is extremely grateful to the presenters for their ongoing support and commitment to improving SMA therapy in Ireland.
